Freiburg are currently lacking consistency. While they recently secured two victories – away at St. Pauli (2-1) and at home against Genk (5-1) – the sixth-best home team in the league had previously gone four competitive matches without a win. This included a 0-1 home defeat against Union Berlin three weeks ago.
From a league table perspective, the eighth-placed team is hosting the league leaders. The record champions have a whopping 33 more points (70) and are nine points ahead of their closest pursuer, Dortmund. SC Freiburg, currently in sixth place, are also nine points short of qualifying for European competition again. However, as cup semi-finalists and Europa League quarter-finalists, Freiburg still control their own destiny.
Two weeks after their 4-0 home win against Union Berlin, the visitors have made five changes to their starting lineup. Goalkeeper Jonas Urbig, Dayot Upamecano, Konrad Laimer, Michael Olise (all on the bench), and Harry Kane (ankle problems) are not in Munich's starting eleven. Instead, Vincent Kompany has named goalkeeper Manuel Neuer (returning from a calf injury), Jonathan Tah (returning from suspension), Tom Bischof, Raphael Guerreiro, and Luis Diaz (returning from a red card suspension) in the starting eleven.

Compared to the 2-1 victory at St. Pauli before the international break, Julian Schuster makes four changes. Christian Günter, Philipp Lienhart, Derry Scherhant and Lucas Höler replace Jordy Makengo (not in the squad), Bruno Ogbus, Vincenzo Grifo and Igor Matanovic (all on the bench) in the starting eleven for Freiburg.
