Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian spoke by phone with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the two spoke after the arrival of a large US warship in the Middle East and amid fears of war with Israel or the US.
The United States has recently signaled that it may attack Iran over its crackdown on anti-government protests. US President Donald Trump has already sent the USS Abraham Lincoln warship to the region.
Speaking to the Saudi crown prince on Tuesday, Pezeshkian strongly criticized the US threat, saying it would only undermine regional security and increase instability. The Iranian president added that the Iranians could not be subdued by economic pressure or outside interference.
The Saudi Crown Prince welcomed the talks and said that Saudi Arabia is in favor of peace and development in the region. He made it clear that Saudi Arabia's airspace or soil will not be allowed to be used to attack Iran. He emphasized that any dispute should be resolved through negotiations.
For this, the Iranian President thanked Saudi Arabia and praised Saudi Arabia's respect for the country's sovereignty.
'Neighboring countries are our friends'
The phone call between the two leaders comes at a time when Trump has repeatedly threatened to attack Iran. Trump said in a speech in Iowa that his Navy is moving towards Iran. He wants Iran to make a deal on the US's terms. He said, somewhat sarcastically, that if the deal had been made earlier, Iran would not be in this situation today.
Amid fears of war, a commander of Iran's Revolutionary Guard (IRGC) has warned neighbors, "You are our friends. But if we are attacked using your space, you will also be seen as enemies."
In June 2025, Israel and the United States jointly launched a massive attack on Iran's nuclear facility. Since then, tensions between the two countries have been high. The United States wants Iran to completely halt its nuclear activities; but Iran is not willing to bow to pressure.
An Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman has warned that an attack on Iran would have repercussions throughout the Middle East, because once unrest starts, it spreads like a contagious disease.
