Professor Asif Nazrul, Advisor to the Ministry of Expatriates' Welfare and Overseas Employment, said that Bangladesh is determined to develop a skilled workforce to meet the challenges of the future. He also said that the Bangladesh government has taken various steps to meet the growing demand for skilled manpower in the global labor market.

At the Global Labor Market Conference held in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, on Monday, he highlighted the qualitative changes in Bangladesh's labor market and future plans.

Asif Nazrul said that as a result of the Skills Verification Program (SVP) agreement with Saudi Takamal, Bangladesh is now issuing skill certificates to 60,000 workers in various professions every month as per the demand of the Saudi labor market.

Referring to Bangladesh's commitment to protecting labor rights, he said that by ratifying the ten fundamental conventions of the ILO within South Asia, Bangladesh has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring fairness, welfare, and accountability in the labor market.

In line with this promise, Asif Nazrul said that the new law will be enacted, and the 'Bangladesh Labor (Amendment) Ordinance, 2025' has been issued in line with it. This ordinance will facilitate the formation of trade unions, eliminate gender-based wage discrimination, and ensure fair rights of workers by prohibiting blacklisting.

Regarding the recently signed labor recruitment agreement between Bangladesh and Saudi Arabia, he expressed hope that this agreement will play an important role in safe migration.

It is worth noting that the Global Labor Market Conference is being held in Riyadh for the third time this year. Labor ministers from a total of 35 countries, including the Secretary-General of the International Labor Organization (ILO), are participating in it.
