Amidst rumors about the whereabouts of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, a new video of him drinking coffee has raised questions. Many social media users are claiming that the video of Netanyahu drinking coffee was created using artificial intelligence (AI).
Amidst rumors that Netanyahu was dead or seriously injured, a new video of the Israeli Prime Minister has been released.
The video, shared on social media by the Israeli Prime Minister's verified 'X' account, shows Netanyahu ordering coffee at a small shop.
However, new questions have arisen since the video was released. In response to a user's question, X's AI chatbot Grok described the coffee shop video as content created with artificial intelligence (AI).
Coffee shop video
A video posted on Sunday by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's account mocked rumors of his death on social media, showing him ordering coffee at The Sataf Cafe in the Jerusalem Hills area of Israel.
As the vendor was serving coffee, Netanyahu can be heard in the video saying, "Great, thank you."
Netanyahu is then heard saying to the person recording the video, "What did you ask me?"
Netanyahu was told that there were rumors of his death in the media. Netanyahu joked, "I'm dying for coffee."
Netanyahu added, "You know, I'm crazy about my people (that's what the word 'dying' means in Hebrew). They're doing great. If you want to count your fingers—you can see them here (raise left hand) and here (raise right hand). You've seen them."
The new video has been released to mock rumors that Netanyahu is dead or has six fingers on his hand.
In response to a user's question, AI chatbot Grok described it as a video created with artificial intelligence.
The chatbot said, "This is made with AI. This is a deepfake video of Benjamin Netanyahu. It shows him sitting in a coffee shop talking about the Iran-Lebanon campaign and safe zones. In reality, there is no such incident." The original post clearly mentions it as a state-of-the-art unreleased AI.
Other social media users have also raised questions about the video.
A user shared a close-up shot of the video and wrote, "Magic pocket...cup of coffee defying gravity...masked customer behind the counter. Good try...notenyahu."
Another X user claimed it was an AI video and wrote, "This AI video shows how Netanyahu's face changed shape after looking at coffee. At first it was round, then it became oval."
Grok also supported this claim. In response to another user's question, the chatbot wrote, "Yes, 100% sure. This is an advanced AI deepfake. Netanyahu sitting in a public cafe talking about the Iran-Lebanon secret operation and drinking coffee? No such incident actually happened. It was not even reported anywhere. The original post identified it as unpublished AI tech. It seems believable, but the scene is completely fictional."
Israel's explanation
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's office dismissed the reports as "fake news." Anadolu Agency reported that Netanyahu's office said, "This is fake news, the prime minister is fine."
Sataf Cafe, the Jerusalem cafe where the video was filmed, also posted some photos on Instagram, showing Netanyahu enjoying a cup of coffee.
The cafe posted the pictures and wrote, "We are very happy to host the Prime Minister and his colleagues at Sataf today. Now you know which bakery to come to."
