President of India Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi and other political leaders have expressed their condolences over the death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar.
According to the Indian government, Ajit Pawar and four others were killed in a plane crash in Maharashtra's Pune district on Wednesday morning. The Maharashtra government has already declared three days of mourning for the death of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit.
In a post on social media, Indian President Draupadi Murmu called the death of National Congress Party (NCP) leader Ajit an irreparable loss.
The President of India wrote, '(Ajit) Pawar will always be remembered for his special contribution to the development of Maharashtra, especially in the cooperative sector.'
Draupadi Murmu expressed her deep condolences to the bereaved family of the deceased Ajit.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his condolences and said, "Ajit Pawar was a people's leader who had a deep connection with the people."
Modi further said, "He was widely respected as a hardworking personality in serving the people of Maharashtra. His deep understanding of administrative matters and his interest in poverty and empowerment of the downtrodden were also commendable. His untimely demise is deeply tragic and saddening. My condolences to his family and countless devotees."
Union Home Minister Amit Shah said that he is deeply saddened by the news of Ajit Pawar's death.
Amit Shah said, "Today, I am deeply saddened by the tragic death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister and senior colleague of our NDA alliance, Ajit Pawar, in a tragic accident. Words cannot express the dedication that Ajit Pawar had for the welfare of every section of Maharashtra's society for three and a half decades."
Amit Shah also expressed condolences to the family members of the late Ajit.
In a post on Twitter, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi said, "The death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar and his co-passengers in a plane crash today is extremely heartbreaking. My thoughts are with the people of Maharashtra in this hour of grief. My condolences to the entire Pawar family and their loved ones."
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee said, "I am deeply shocked and saddened to hear the news of the sudden demise of Ajit Pawar. This morning, the Deputy Chief Minister of Maharashtra and his co-passengers lost their lives in a horrific plane crash in Baramati. I am deeply saddened by this tragedy."
BJP All India President Nitin Naveen said, "The untimely death of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar in a plane crash in Baramati is very heartbreaking. Ajit Pawar has given top priority to the development of Maharashtra and decisions taken in the interest of the people since he was active in public service."
Naveen further said, "The entire NDA family stands firmly with the Power family in this time of grief."
Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge said that Ajit Pawar will be remembered as an experienced and astute politician.
Kharge expressed deep condolences to the family, supporters and well-wishers of the deceased Ajit Pawar.
